Violins of Hope

The Virginia Holocaust Museum with Violins of Hope presents a special concert of Jewish composers whose music was suppressed by the Nazis during the 1930s and 40s.
This concert highlights the beauty and power of the music by these long-neglected composers. Tragically, the human beings whose work and lives were stolen by the Nazi regime are gone forever, but with the rediscovery of these important composers’ lost works, we have the exciting opportunity to let them live on through their music. History may have rendered these ‘lost’ composers silent for decades, but today we can celebrate their spirits by allowing their voices to sing out again. The concert will be played on restored violins, viola and cello.
By presenting their music, we cannot bring them back to life and we cannot undo the injustice they suffered in their lives. However, we can bring them justice by playing their music 80 years after the fact.
Violins of Hope is presented by the Roanoke Jewish Federation. Safety guidelines and requirements include:
- All ticket holders are required to wear a mask at all times during their visit inside the Grandin Theatre.
- All ticket holders will be required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test, as well as a photo ID prior to gaining access to the Theatre.
- Photos or copies of your vaccination card are accepted as proof. Any negative PCR COVID test results provided must have been taken within 72 hours of admission.
- Ticket holders will choose from available socially distanced seats demarcated inside the Theatre.
- No concessions or bar will be available for this performance.
