Local Teenager Brings Global Issue to the Screen at the Grandin.
ROANOKE, VA – Salem High School Senior Grace Mann is serious about her future. In August she’ll head to Jacksonville, Florida to begin advanced studies in Marine Biology, committing her life to the health of our struggling oceans; however, before she leaves the Valley, she will work in cooperation with the Grandin Theatre Foundation to present, SHARKWATER EXTINCTION, raising funds and awareness for the Rob Stewart Sharkwater Foundation.
SHARKWATER EXTINCTION is the long awaited follow-up to the award-winning SHARKWATER, directed and produced by Rob Stewart who tragically died in a diving accident toward the end of SHARKWATER EXTINCTION filming. The film tackles the dark-side of the international billion dollar black market for shark fin soup and the atrocities associated with brutally killing over 150 million sharks a year – a crucial apex species in our marine environments. On May 1st at 7:15 pm, Mann in conjunction with the Grandin Theatre Foundation will bring the film to The Grandin.
“We are constantly looking for relevant community based programming, especially pieces that have cultural implications for our patrons and guests,” said Grandin Theatre Foundation Executive Director, Ian Fortier. “This film tackles a massive global issue and brings relevance to our local understandings of what we can do as citizens and how we can help stem the tide of shark species degradation. Grace’s passion for this subject is compelling and we are honored she brought the film to us.”
“I want to start making a difference and I believe that by showing this film to people, I might be able to inspire more students just like I was inspired three years ago”, said Mann.
This is a one-time screening on Wednesday, May 1 at 7:15 pm. Tickets for this screening are $12 for General Admission, $9 for students and can be purchased now at the Box Office of the Theatre during regular hours or at www.grandintheatre.com/shows/sharkwater-extinction.
